Our next stop was going to be La Rochelle but as it is now Mid August and the main French holiday, Colin had said that every French person and their dog would be heading there for their annual holiday. Especially this week as Wednesday was a national holiday. So we didn’t want to chance driving to La Rochelle to try our luck at staying in an Aire and we couldn’t find a campsite available.
This is the downside of being on ‘the road’ and not having anywhere booked. Although not a really big downside to be honest it just means we have to be flexible. So we both got on the iPads to see where we could find for a couple of days.
So we ended up here! Another gem of a site, located in the Vallee de L’Yon. This site was very small but peaceful and relaxing. We highly recommend a stay here if you are ever in the area www.aubonniere.com
We pitched up overlooking the fishing lake with only other couple (also British) behind us. The facilities were clean and Marie the owner was very accommodating, she gave us a WiFi code (so we could save our data-bonus!!) and also showed us a good route to walk the dogs along the river.
The dogs were in heaven playing in the river. Luckily the weather was glorious so they could dry off before coming back into the motorhome. We obviously love our dogs very much but neither of us can stand wet dog smell.
So we whiled away a couple of days in this peaceful place before moving on to the hustle and bustle of Il de Re, which is our next stop.
