We stopped here for a few days. Peniscola is a popular Spanish tourist destination and you can definitely see why.
The golden sand beach seems to go on forever, there’s a lovely promenade that runs parallel to the beach to stroll along or cycle as we did, with a great selection of cafes and restaurants.
One perk when visiting places like Peniscola out of season is there is always plenty of parking available.
In the summer sand sculptures are made along the beach, unfortunately with it being out of season we didn’t get to see these.
We cycled along the promenade which is about 6 kms long and stopped several times to take in the views.
We then made our way up the cobbled streets of the old town and came across these gates. The old town is built on a rocky headland and joined to the mainland by a narrow strip of land.
When we got closer we were both quite surprised to see a nativity scene.
Peniscola hosts an annual comedy film festival and is also famous for being used as a film location. El Cid was filmed here in the 1960’s but more recently it was used as one of the film sets in Game of Thrones.
The dogs really enjoyed their stay here as there were plenty of areas for them to have a good run around and play with their ball.
