Frigiliana Spain

We didn’t drive up to Frigiliana as we visited with our friends who live in the area and they kindly gave us a lift. However, it would be possible to drive a motorhome up to visit. There are quite a lot of on street parking spaces next to the large municipal car park at the entrance to the village. This would be the best place to park a motorhome. Do not attempt driving around the village centre, several roads are pedestrianised and those that aren’t are very steep and narrow. Although when we visited it was very busy and nearly all the parking had gone. So our advice would be if you need to park do not arrive at peak times.

Personally we would recommend getting a bus from Nerja as the journey time is only about 15 minutes and costs around one euro.

Frigiliana is considered one of the most beautiful Pueblo Blanco (white villages) in Andalusia. Its narrow winding streets lined with Moorish whitewashed town houses make a nice retreat from the midday sun and everyday life.

Be warned the village is on the side of a hill so there are a lot of steps but the small plazas with their bars and restaurants make for a great retreat to stop for a drink or two and admire the views.

There are twelve ceramic plaques that are situated throughout the old section of the village. They tell the story of the Moorish uprising and the last battles that were fought in the area.  We didn’t find all of them!

A beautiful village and definitely worth a visit, it certainly didn’t disappoint.
