Naples is the regional capital of Campania and the 3rd largest municipality in Italy. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a wide range of cultural and historical sites.

It is mainly known for pizza which originated in the city, the most famous pizza being the neopolitan. The ingredients are strictly regulated by law since 2004!! It must include wheat flour type’00’ with the addition of flour type’0′ yeast, natural mineral water, tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, sea salt and extra virgin olive oil.

It would be wrong to visit Naples and not eat pizza. I had a vegetable pizza and Colin had the restaurants house special – Decumani, the crust was stuffed with cheese, vegetables and topped with ham, tomatoes, rocket, then finished off with 125 grams of Buffalo Mozzarella D.O.P. The pizzas were huge, so we had a long leisurely lunch.

We visited Via San Gregorio Armeno otherwise known as Christmas Alley. It is famous for its crib making tradition and it even has a road exclusively of crib shops, where you can watch the shop keepers making the activity scenes and the cribs.  Not only did we see the traditional figurines such as Jesus and Madonna but there was also detailed copies of pizzerias, fruit markets and some shops even have caricatured politicians and football players.

Around every corner is a church or historic building.

We visited the cathedral, it is widely known as the Cattedrale di San Gennaro in honour of the Cities patron saint.  It was the most beautiful cathedral we have visited, it was breath taking.

Colin was desperate for a haircut, his Croatian buzz cut had finally grown out.  The barber took about an hour to finish his creation, this also included having a parting razored in. We had never heard of such a thing before?? It was a much more stylish cut and the guy was very pleased with it and even took some pictures of it.
