Our main reason for visiting Denia was to meet up with friends that were over on holiday. They were staying with a couple of friends who are ex-pats and have lived in Denia for about 15 years. It was great to meet up with our friends and also make two new ones.
Denia is a historical coastal City and is considered to be one of the beautiful riches of Spain. The population is just over 40,000 but in the summer months when tourists visit it can increase to over 200,000!! We had no problem with traffic jams or queues but that is probably a different story in the summer months.
You can get a ferry to Ibiza or Majorca from here. The fast ferry to Ibiza takes less than 3 hours.
We walked along the marina and admired the yachts.
A visit to the fish market is a must. The fishing boats all return to the harbour at 5pm.
The fresh fish are then auctioned, the majority of local restaurateurs buy it and serve it on their evening menu. So ‘fresh fish’ in Denia means FRESH. There was a great variety of fish from eels to monkfish.
We liked Denia alot and it is on the list of places to return to at a later stage.
