We opted to stay here for two reasons. The main reason it suited us well to visit Madrid and the second reason being the cultural landscape was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.
The campsite we stayed at was in a great location to visit the gardens and about a 20 minute walk to the palace.
On Wednesday and Thursday’s after 5pm the palace is free to enter as long as you show your passport. So we set off on Wednesday evening to have a look around.
First impressions the palace didn’t look very grand. Then we turned the street corner!
We were lucky that there wasn’t any queues and we were nearly the only people in the Palace. We managed to take one picture of the entrance hall but then unfortunately you cant take any photographs of the main rooms. This was such a shame as the palace was utterly breathtaking. It was hard to believe that the palace was built in 1560 and in such great condition.
We wandered into the town as the gardens were shut and had a really nice time. There isn’t much else to see in Aranjuez but it was a great base for us.
