Skradin – Krka National Park

We have been deliberating whether to start driving north back up through Croatia and retracing our route back into Italy or carry on driving south to Split and getting the ferry across to Italy.

The decision was made easy when we woke and the weather had taken a bit of a turn. Yes it was still sunny but the wind was blowing a gale. As written in previous posts we have driven in the wind in Croatia already through the mountains and it was a tad scary. The toll road is a great road but high up with a lot of viaduct bridges which made cars sway as they went across let alone our motorhome. So that was it, decision made we drove approximately 30 miles to Skradin so that we could visit Krka National Park the following day.

Skradin is a small town located right on the Krka river, it is very motorhome friendly with lots of places to easily park ‘Billy’ Burstner. We bought our tickets and took the free water taxi to the National Park which took about 20 minutes.  The views from the water taxi were stunning.

The water taxi dropped us within a 5 minute walk to the foot of Skradinski buk which is the biggest waterfall and the main attraction in the park. There was an area in front of the waterfall that you could paddle in if you wished, we decided not to bother as it was shallow and very rocky.

We took the 2.5km walk around the nature trail. After the initial climb of steps, which got both our hearts pounding so say the least! The trail is quite flat and an easy stroll around with stunning views. We were shocked how many fish were in the river too they were everywhere!

On the descend you come across one of the lakes that feeds into the waterfalls which was just amazing.

It was a delightful afternoon and a must see if you visit Croatia. There is so much more to do in Krka National Park and we just scratched the surface as there’s 17 waterfalls in total and lots of other attractions such as the island of Visovac.

    Hi there,
Been great following you adventure. Can only say, hats off to the pair of you.
Must admit that we have been looking at Croatia/Slovenia, either to visit solely or to travel through en-route to Greece…..but……have heard from other motorhomers that there can be some “grief” in passing through Albania or Moldova. Have you heard anything? As we are retired and live in SW France our route to the Greece could also be via the ferries at Ancona/Bari etc. Obviously a bit of additional research to be done! Any information that you have would be gratefully received plus a glass or two of red/white gargle should we meet up.

    Safe motorhoming,
    Glenys and Fred Chase
