We only had a 40 minute drive to get the ferry at Villa San Giovanni to Messina. We bought a single ferry ticket for the not so reasonable price of 55 euros. We aren’t planning on staying in Sicily forever, we have looked and it works out better for us to get another ferry from Sicily to Salerno (just south of Naples). We have chosen to do this for a couple of reasons-
1. It saves us having to go back on ourselves again.
2. It saves us some money – which we can then spend on other treats.
3. More importantly it gives us more to time visit the places in Italy we want to see, rather than us spending time in areas that aren’t of so much interest.
We have decided to drive towards Palermo and start our tour around Sicily at the North and work our way back down around the west coast where most of the tourist sights are that we want to see.
First stop Cefalù..
