Our first stop in Lithuania was at Trakai. We found a great Aire which only cost 13 euros per night and it was right in the centre with a view over looking the lake.
Trakai is a city that is located about 20 miles outside Vilnius. It is a popular tourist destination, so it gets very busy. You can hire boats, take a boat tour around the castle or just have a gentle stroll around.
The 14th century castle is built on an island in Lake Galve.
The castle fell into disrepair and underwent major reconstruction after World War II which was completed in 1961. The castle is now a major tourist attraction and used as a museum.
We only stayed one night but had a great evening walking around and taking in the atmosphere.
