Sorrento and Positano

We didn’t fancy driving along the Amalfi Coast in the motorhome but we were desperate to visit. It has been on our bucket list for a long time, so it would have been stupid for us to pass this opportunity up when it was on our doorstep. We knew the roads were not for the faint hearted as they were windy and narrow so we caught the train to Sorrento and then the bus to Positano.

We jumped off the train and had a look around Sorrento which was smaller than we had thought but very nice all the same.

Limoncello is produced in Sorrento and there were shops selling it everywhere.  We went down to Marina and the view out across the bay was stunning.

We were glad that we had opted out of driving, the roads were a lot worse than either of us had imagined. Although the bus driver didn’t seem to mind them and was able to negotiate the roads and have a chat on his phone at the same time!!  The views on the other hand were amazing and it was great that we were both able to sit back and sort of relax and enjoy them.

We jumped off the bus at the first stop and decided to walk down to the beach. This meant us walking down thousands of steps and we mean literally thousands but it gave us the chance to stop and admire the view.

At the bottom we walked along the beach.

We visited the church of Santa Maria Assunta which dome is made of majolica tiles.

Then window shopped as we meandered back up through the winding streets.

Positano has been the location for many films and apparently Mick Jagger & Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones wrote ‘Midnight Rambler’ in the cafes while away on holiday there.

Luckily we didn’t have to walk all the way up to where we had got off the bus. We were able to get the bus back from a stop which was a quarter of the way up.

Positano lived up to our expectations and we have said at some stage we will come back and discover more of the quaint villages along the Amalfi Coast.
