We moved from Lake Balaton to an independent campsite located in a lovely rural location about 20 miles further south.

The campsite is called Tranquil Pines http://www.hungariancountrycamping.com/index.htm and owned by an English couple called Andrew and Sharon. Luckily for us they offer a day excursion to Pécs as the campsite in Pécs is closed for winter.

We were keen to visit Pécs as its history sounded very interesting. It was historically a multi-ethnic city where many cultures intermingled and in 1998 Pécs was given the UNESCO prize “Cities for Peace” for maintaining it’s cultural minorities, and also for its tolerant and helping attitude toward refugees. It also has a UNESCO World Heritage Site which we wanted to visit.

Pasha Gazi Kassim Mosque was built in the mid 16th century and was converted to a church in 1702. It is meant to be beautiful inside but unfortunately it was closed for renovation.

The National Theatre of Pecs is a beautiful building.

The Early Christian Necropolis (UNESCO World Heritage) is regarded as one of the most significant Roman provincial cemeteries. Both its architecture and incredible mural paintings are regarded as some of the most outstanding accomplishments in Europe.

Széchenyi Square is the main square in Pecs and it is surrounded by beautiful buildings and lots of cafes/restaurants where you can sit and people watch.

Pécs TV Tower is a television tower which stands on the Misina peak which is on the edge of the Mecsek mountains. The tower measures 197 metres, you can catch the lift up to the observation deck at a height of 75 metres to get a brilliant view over the city.

Pécs is a lovely City with a very chic vibe and we really enjoyed our day here.
