We spent the weekend at Lake Maggiore. This stop didn’t really go to plan to be honest. We found a campsite that we liked the look of and didn’t call to see if they had any availability. We just haven’t had any issue in France since the summer holidays had now finished.
So we arrived mid afternoon, tired and hot as it was a glorious day to be told there was no room. Uh oh !!!
We sat in the car park and found another site 4 miles up the road (or lake shall I say). We gave them a call and they had availability – hooray.
The only issue with this was we had researched the other campsite and it ticked all the boxes for things to do and was also in close proximity to the town and had some good walking routes for the dogs.
The site we stayed at was lovely don’t get me wrong and as we arrived late we ordered takeaway pizza from the restaurant for ease which was very nice. The facilities were good and the site was right on the lake with its own private beach. They had a field to walk the dogs (but had to keep the dogs on leads) which is great but you have to do several laps of the field to take any edge off Lily and you start to go a little stir crazy walking around the perimeter of a field.
We did have a lovely weekend, relaxing at the beach and pottering around the motorhome but didn’t really take advantage to explore what Lake Maggiore really has to offer.
All we can say is that we have been there and it was a stopgap for us to continue on to Lake Garda.
