10 years ago we had our honeymoon in Italy and stayed for the majority of the time in a villa situated close to Ascoli Piceno.
Ascoli Piceno is the main city for the Marche area and steeped in history. There’s plenty of interesting places to visit and things to see here. We headed straight to Piazza del Popolo as we had enjoyed people watching at Caffe Meletti’s while having a relaxing drink and watching the afternoon drift by on our honeymoon. Caffe Meletti’s has been open since 1907 and still has much of its original décor and furnishings it is one of the major landmarks for Ascoli Piceno, its very traditional and such a lovely place to relax for a hour or two.
Nothing has seemed to have changed at all and it was a heart warming moment to be standing in the Piazza again. Who would have thought we would have been back there, we certainly didn’t.
We had a lovely time wandering around and Ascoli Piceno is much bigger than we both recalled.
We couldn’t leave without Colin having some of the cities famous ‘olive ascolane’ which are olives painstakingly stuffed with meat or cheese and fried in breadcrumbs. The great news is though 10 years on they now also do a vegetarian version so I could have some too ! These olives are a real delicacy and were so tasty. Colin said they tasted exactly the same as he remembered.
