In 2011 it was agreed that Sony Pictures could paint the whole village blue for publicity of the new Smurfs Movie that was due out.

Juzcar, is situated about 15 miles away from the city of Ronda which doesn’t sound too far. However when the road is a single carriageway mountain road and pretty bendy it can take quite along time to travel 15 miles.
We checked on google maps to make sure we were confident that we would be able to take Billy the Burstner without raising the stress levels too much and both agreed it was possible.
The roads weren’t too bad and had plenty of passing areas and for the majority of the time we could see quite far in advance so if another car was coming we were able to stop and wait for it to pass us.

So why was Juzcar chosen by Sony? ..Simple really .. The Smurfs love mushrooms and this mountainous area is full of this gorgeous fungi in Autumn.
We spent a couple of hours wandering around this peculiar village and there is actually quite a lot to see. It has its own tourist information centre, a few restaurants, tourist gift shops, a couple of hotels and you can even zip wire down over the village- although unfortunately it was closed when we visited.

If you are prepared to take your time on the roads and want to do something a little bit different then it’s certainly worth visiting this quirky village. After all, it’s the only official Smurf village in the world and the Smurfs are so cool.. Or we think so anyway.
